The difference between BLDC motor and Brushed DC motor

The table below provides a comparison of the basic performance characteristics of Brushed DC motor and brushless DC motors. As shown in the table, brushless DC motors outperform brush DC motors in terms of power density, peak efficiency, speed range, reliability, operation lifespan, and structural durability. The only aera where brush DC motors have an advantage is in controller cost. Overall, brushless DC motors hold significant advantages in performance and other aspects compared to Brushed DC motor. With the rapid development and widespread adoption of electronic control technology, controller costs are expected to decrease, while their size will reduce, and power density will increase. As a result, brushless DC motors are anticipated to increasingly replace Brushed DC motor in a wider range of applications.
Item Brushed DC motor Brushless DC motors
Power density Low High
Peak efficiency 85%~89% 95%~97%
Load efficiency 80%~87% 85%~97%
Speed range 1000~10000 500~10000
Reliability Common Good
Operation life Short Long
Motor size Large Small
